Carmen D. Caruso Law Firm Scores Victory for a Rabbi in Retirement Savings Fight

Carmen D. Caruso Law Firm obtained a cash settlement for a prominent Chicago Rabbi after his synagogue failed to pay him the deferred earnings it has promised to pay in a written plan.

The synagogue had failed to keep up with changes in the tax laws, creating a danger the Rabbi would face accelerated tax liability upon his retirement at the end of 2016.  But instead of solving the tax issue, as it promised to do, the Synagogue and its outside counsel amended the Rabbi’s plan hoping to force the Rabbi to take substantially less than he was scheduled to receive over the next fifteen years.   Confronted by serious fraud charges and a breach of contract claims, the Synagogue switched counsel and settled on favorable terms for the Rabbi and assigned to the Rabbi its claim for negligence against its original attorney.

Carmen will now pursue the Rabbi’s claims against that law firm for additional damages.
